Venom Extracts
Venom Immunotherapy Saves Lives
The statistics are concerning: 7% of the US population is at risk for life-threatening reactions to bee and wasp stings¹, resulting in 220,000 annual ER visits². The fear and danger associated with hymenoptera venom allergies deeply impacts your patients’ quality of life and well-being.
Offering venom immunotherapy (VIT) in your clinic can change lives. With an impressive efficacy rating of up to 98%³, VIT significantly reduces the risk of systemic reactions, making it possible for patients to once again enjoy being outdoors.
From Field to Patient: How Our Venom Extracts Are Produced
- Collection: We have a network of collectors aross the country that provide us with thousands of pounds of wasps and other vespids each year. Then, the frozen insects are shipped to our site. Honey bees are carefully and sustainably bred. We collect up to 14 different species.
- Vespid Dissection: The venom sac is roughly a size of a pin head and are extracted in our facility by hand with tweezers. It takes 520 staff-hours to extract 130,000 insects for one batch of raw material.
- Processing: To ensure consistent supply, HollisterStier Allergy has made significant investments in venom-related equipment and infrastructure.
- Filling: By adding a second lyophilizer and filler to our venom line, we ensure an uninterrupted supply of venom to the market.
- Finishing: This manual process encompasses individual inspection, hand-labeling each vial, and hand-packaging the product ahead of shipping.
- Release: Each batch must pass a minimum of 15 separate quality checks before it is released for shipment.
WARNING Important Safety Information (See full prescribing information for complete boxed warning.)
Intended for use only by licensed health care provider experienced in administering allergenic extracts and trained to provide immediate emergency treatment in the event of a life-threatening reaction. Observe patients for at least 30 minutes following administration. Immunotherapy may not be suitable for patients with medical conditions that reduce their ability to withstand a systemic reaction. Allergenic extracts can cause serious systemic reactions; including anaphylactic shock and in rare cases death, especially in patients who have severe or steroid-dependent asthma, cardiovascular disease, or in patients who use beta blockers. Do not inject intravenously. The reconstituted single venom products are intended for subcutaneous injection for immunotherapy and percutaneous use for diagnosis. The Mixed Vespid venom protein is for immunotherapy only, not for diagnosis. Diagnosis should be based on individual venoms. Refer to contraindications, warnings, precautions, adverse reaction and over dosage for more detailed information.
